A New Direction for Joseph
When Joseph Everett arrived at The Salvation Army shelter on July 14, 2025, he was experiencing homelessness and searching for stability. He wasn’t sure what the future would hold, but he knew he wanted to get back on his feet.
During his stay, Joseph connected with his case manager Sarah, who worked with him to set goals and stay focused. Having consistent support and encouragement gave Joseph a sense of direction and the reassurance that he wasn’t alone. “It was a good sense of direction — having a clean environment and not feeling like I’m alone. Sarah and the environment helped me keep pushing to do better,” he shared.
Joseph says his faith and determination kept him motivated, but he’s also grateful for the people who stood beside him along the way. “Survival and God. Staying positive, knowing that people who care will stand behind me and push me to do it for myself,” he said.
On September 12, 2025, Joseph reached a milestone he had been working toward; he moved into permanent housing. With renewed confidence, he is now looking forward to the future and building a stronger foundation for himself.
Joseph also has words of encouragement for others facing tough times:
- “Use your time efficiently so you have no regrets on what you did with it.”
- “Stay positive and work with those who are there to help you — all things are possible.”
- “Work with the staff, because when things are in line, everything will work out.”
Joseph’s success is a reflection of his determination, the guidance of his case manager, and the generosity of donors who make it possible for The Salvation Army to provide safe shelter, encouragement, and hope.
