Partners in Doing the Most Good

The Salvation Army has changed lives and given hope to countless people throughout the nation. But it never does it alone.

The need for help in the community has always been there, but during the holiday season, what is a joyful time for most, is a time of greater hardship for people who are already suffering. At The Salvation Army of Central Virginia, we have the unique opportunity to transform that hardship into hope for the holidays.

There are many ways to get involved with us, whether as a volunteer at the Red Kettles, adopting an Angel (child) or Silver Bell (senior) to provide Christmas gifts for, rallying your network to give back, or joining us as a Christmas Partner through the whole season. Below is more information on opportunities to support The Salvation Army and Central Virginia area at Christmas, as well as beyond the holiday season.

Volunteer at a Red Kettle

Ringing a bell at the Red Kettle is a great way to begin a family legacy of giving back. Volunteering to ring at a red kettle for a couple hours is a fun way to spend the holiday season, but will help long beyond Christmas. All funds raised at our Red Kettles support year-round programming like our Emergency Shelter, Boys & Girls Club, Financial Assistance, and more. An average of $80 is raised every two hours at one Red Kettle. When you volunteer for two hours, or more, you help the most vulnerable members of our community receive the help and hope they need. Visit www.registertoring.com to find a Red Kettle volunteer opportunity near you.

Volunteer For Angel Tree

Between October through December, volunteers assist us with registering clients to receive Christmas assistance, helping donors "adopt" their special Angel (child) or Silver Bell (senior) to provide gifts for, sort and process gifts to get them ready for pick up, and distribute those special gifts back to the recipients in time for Christmas. We have a variety of volunteer needs and shifts that are great for individuals and groups.

Donate At a Red Kettle

Now it is easier than ever to give back to The Salvation Army and provide critically needed social services all year long. From the middle of November through Christmas Eve on December 24th, Red Kettles are located at participating businesses throughout Central Virginia. Gifts of cash can be donated at a Red Kettle, or you can make your donation through Google Pay, Apple Pay, or online. Red Kettles are out from Monday through Saturday thanks to our generous volunteers and staff ringers.

Funds donated at a Red Kettle remain in the community in which they were raised and support programs 365 days a year.

Host a Virtual Red Kettle

The Virtual Red Kettle brings fundraising directly to you and is a great way to involve your organization, civic group, family or friends in giving back. Create your own fundraising campaign to join the challenge, or donate to a participating campaign team.
